Stephen Gately, ex-member of the mega-successful Irish boy band Boyzone, has wed his boyfriend, saying it’s “the happiest day of my life.”
Stephen and 30-year-old entrepreneur Andy Cowles made the commitment at a private ceremony at London’s posh Goring Hotel, which is just a stone-throw away from Buckingham Palace, with Stephen’s former band-mates Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch in attendance.
The couple were reportedly introduced to each other by Sir Elton John three years ago, who was invited to the 'wedding' but didn’t attend.
Stephen’s ex-manager, much loathed “X Factor” judge Louis Walsh, was forced to miss the ceremony because of a “touch of the flu”.
They’ve kept all other details of their ‘wedding’ hush hush.
The couple had already been officially ‘wed’ in Las Vegas three years ago, but made this commitment after civil partnerships recently became legal in the UK.
Boyzone were one of the top British boy bands in the 1990s, notching up many chart hits including "Love Me For A Reason", "Words" and "A Different Beat".
After the band’s split in 1999, Stephen enjoyed a short-lived solo career before being dropped by his record label in 2001. He has since appeared in musicals.
