Paparazzi are arriving and rumors are rampant among the Italian media that super couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would be arriving at George Clooney's villa at Lake Como in Laglio, Italy, this weekend to make their family status a little more official.
No one knows for sure, and those who might know aren't talking, but according to reports, the Italians are saying that the couple could show up in Laglio at Clooney's place, or at a luxury hotel in nearby Cernobbio, and get married immediately. They'll be checking in as "Mr and Mrs. Smith" no doubt.
Italian law states that citizens must make a public announcement of their wedding 30 days in advance of the wedding - but that the rule does not apply to foreigners.
Clooney, a close friend of the couple who are currently house-shopping in France, is believed to have made his lavish lakefront villa available to them. Monica Mantero, the wife of Laglio Mayor Giuseppe Mantero, said Thursday that Brad and Ange hadn't fixed a date with her husband who could do the ceremony, but that "even if they contacted him an hour before he could still marry them."
"It's amazing. We've had calls from Russia, Alaska, everywhere. The local police called me to ask me if we needed extra security because they heard about the wedding," one official said.
Reuters news service said there was some speculate that local tourist operators invented the wedding rumors to fill up hotel rooms, but that when questioned by reporters, townies are convinced something is up. "They are cleaning the village and tidying up everything," one local said. "Something is going to happen."
