Sheryl Crow has had surgery for breast cancer, a statement on her websites has revealed.
"Her doctors think her prognosis is excellent," the Grammy award winning singer's publicist says. The “minimally invasive” procedure was successful and she'll now start radiation therapy as a precaution.
On www.sherylcrow.com, the 44-year-old star said that she was lucky she detected the condition early, and urged other women to have regular check-ups.
“Approximately 1 in 7 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year," she said. "We are a testament to the importance of early detection and new treatments."
The treatment meant Sheryl was forced to postpone her North American tour, which was due to start next month.
Her ex-fiance, seven-time Tour de France winner and testicular cancer survivor Lance Armstrong says: "Once again I'm reminded of just how pervasive this illness is, as it has now touched someone I love deeply."
"Based on my contact in recent days with Sheryl, her doctor and her family, I am confident that she will have a full and complete recovery and the world will be a better place for it," he added.
We wish Sheryl a speedy recovery.
