It would have made good TV if the Oprah stunt to surprise a "Benjamin Bratt fan" had actually come off ... the screaming, the squeals of delight, and tears of joy ... but it made for never-to-be-seen TV, and personal embarrassment to the actor, when it turned out that the woman had no idea who the handsome star was.
Contactmusic.com reports that Benjamin Bratt , the star of "E-Ring" and former boyfriend of Julia Roberts, reluctantly agreed to go along with the prank as a personal favor to the talk show host who always gets her way.
Bratt explained, "I got asked to do something that I was initially reluctant to do, but you don't want to refuse Oprah."
So here's what happened: A woman had contacted the Oprah Show to say her niece was a big, big, big fan of Bratt and wanted to get tickets to the show. Winfrey decided to surprise the woman's niece with a spa day at a local hotel and a personal massage from her favorite star.
The star says, "I had dread in my soul because I knew it wasn't going to work. I said 'All right, I'll do it.' I went out and I said, 'Hi, I'm Benjamin, I'm meant to give you a massage today.'"
"She had no idea who I was. Her aunt lied. She just said that to get a ticket to the show. So, needless to say, they buried the piece and it never got shown. It was pretty bad."
