Rising star Josh Lucas who's been showing his acting chops in his new basketball film "Glory Road" which was a slam dunk at the box office this weekend, is slowly mending after his recent injury which happened while filming the adventure movie "Poseidon."
The star of "Sweet Home Alabama", "When Strangers Appear" and "Stealth" suffered a bad hand injury on the "Poseidon" set in December when he fell nearly fifteen feet directly onto his hand and tore the ligaments in his thumb.
"The muscle actually rolled back up into my thumb and they had to put in two inch slits on either side to go in and rebuild it, and reconnect it through surgery," he said.
Josh says he felt the experience of filming with director Wolfgang Petersen would be a challenge, but it was even more than he had imagined. "Poseidon was physically, insanely difficult. Basically Wolfgang's whole thing was, 'I do not want to have a movie that relies on computer generated images, and so what I'm going to do is I'm going to have real situations.' When you watch the movie, you're going to see the walls are actually imploding from the pressure of the water, and there are massive canons of water shooting at us, and there are fires and all of it is real."
In an earlier interview, Josh also revealed that the crew caught germs while filming scenes in huge water tanks, sparking a cold and flu epidemic. "We were all under water for massive chunks of time, so you're sharing the germs and bacteria with a crew of 200 people. Everyone was very sick for about four months of a six-month shoot. Then, physically, everyone kept getting hurt, and there's not much you can do about it."
With the success of "Glory Road" and potential of "Poseidon" as a blockbuster, it's going to be a huge year for Josh Lucas. Even though his recent injury may turn him off (for about five minutes) to the idea of doing adventure movie stunts, hopefully he'll be pursuaded to consider a turn in "Batman": he's rumored to be a strong contender to be cast as Two Face in the next sequel.
