According to reports, Johnny Depp and his favorite director Tim Burton are looking to do an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, about a barber/serial killer who cuts up his customers and uses their remains as pie-filling.
A source is quoted in Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "No contracts have been signed but Depp and Burton are close to reaching an agreement. "They are keen to work together again and Sweeney Todd is looking certain to be their next project."
Earlier this month, the dazzling and deranged Depp was voted the most popular star in Hollywood for the second year running. The actor beat out other A-List celebrities to take the top spot in the poll, conducted by imdb.com. The website also stated that the 42-year-old star was more searched for than any other star in 2005 - including Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson, and Brad Pitt, who are constantly in the news.
In another bit of exciting and hope-its-true news: according to the website Moviehole, Depp is the top choice to play the Joker in the next "Batman" movie. Now that would be great casting!

i believe mr. depp has sold out to the big bucks. i always thought he would remain slightly underground and make risky adult films (dont mean porn, ha). Now, he makes Hollywood children's films. Sad.
