The Hugs and Snubs at the Oscar Nominations

The list of Academy Award nominees was announced this morning and while there were a few surprises for who made the list, there were also surprises among the ommissions.

"Brokeback Mountain" lead with eight nominations as expected while George Clooney made history as the first ever nominee to get nods for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for two different movies. Keira Knightley was a surprised nomination for best actress in "Pride and Prejudice" while more deserving Joan Allen for "The Upside of Anger" was left off the list. On the men's side, Russell Crowe was NOT nominated for "Cinderella Man" and he tops the list for this year's snubs. Ditto Eric Bana for "Munich." Leading the best picture of the year SNUBS are: "Cinderella Man", "The Constant Gardner", "Walk the Line", and "Pride and Prejudice".

Now for the nominees. The actors in a Leading Role are: Philip Seymour Hoffman {Capote},Terrence Howard {Hustle & Flow}, Heath Ledger {Brokeback Mountain}, Joaquin Phoenix {Walk The Line}, and David Strathairn {Good Night and Good Luck}.

Brokeback Mountain Doesn't Win at the SAGs

In case you weren't watching the SAG awards last night, which means just about everybody, you missed that the overhyped, annointed movie "Brokeback Mountain" didn't win for best cast ensemble.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were loaded with A through D list celebrities from film and TV. This is the award show were actors choose to honor fellow actors, and they don't play politics in picking the most outstanding acting performances to acknowledge.

Top movie honors went to Phillip Seymour Hoffman who won the well-deserved best actor award for his most excellent performance as writer Truman Capote in "Capote", and Reese Witherspoon won as best actress for "Walk the Line." These two should be the odds-on favorites to win Oscars.

"Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" won acting honors for TV in ensemble performance in drama and comedy. Sandra Oh took home the best actress status in a TV drama for "Grey's Anatomy" while Kiefer Sutherland was named best actor in a dramatic series for "24". And Ian McShane is robbed again!

Kanye West's Professor Daddy Disses His Son's Lyrics

The dad of controversial rapper Kanye West would like his son to stop degrading African-Americans in his songs. Former Black Panther turned sociology professor Ray West says he winces every time his son uses the "n" word.

He told Rolling Stone magazine, "I've stated to him very clearly that he needs to move beyond the negative language...It's all right to say b**ch and motherf***er on the corner, but when you start operating on a different level, you can't talk like that."

"Fine, you're trying to get some street acceptance. Now that you got that, get back to your roots," Professor West said. "You know that's not where you came from ... You know that's not how you were raised."

Meanwhile, for Kanye new's shock-of-the-month stunt, he appears on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing a crown of thorns in a Christ poise. But in tastier gossip, he's rumored to have hooked up with Pam Anderson. (talk about your freaky hook-ups!) Will the real Kanye West please stand up?

Lindsay Lohan Falls Down the Stairs

Lindsay Lohan was rushed to the hospital last Friday after an accident on the stairs at the home of 80s rocker Bryan Adams. Party on, Lindsay!

The 19-year-old actress was loaded up in an ambulance and rushed to a hospital. (Again.) Her mom, Dina, reportedly told Star magazine: "She and her friends were preparing breakfast, with eggs and everything, and Lindsay was going up the stairs, carrying a ceramic teacup. She had just come out of the shower so she was still wet and had some lotion on, and she completely flipped on the stairs since it was slippery."

"The teacup went flying, it shattered, and one of the pieces cut Lindsay in her shin."

According to reports, Lohan received 10 stitches on her lower leg and she's just fine. She had reportedly been out partying until 3:30 am with Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson at the trendy Boujis nightclub in London. What she was doing at Adams' house is the only eyebrowing raising bit of news here.

Jennifer Anniston to Dish it Up on Brad. Maybe.

According to new reports, actress Jennifer Aniston is giving some serious thought to writing a book dishing the dirt on her four year marriage to Brad Pitt - as a way to get back at him for running off with Angelina Jolie.

Life & Style Weekly says "Friends" are pushing Jennifer to dish hard in a tell all book. The magazine's web site teases: "Friends of Jennifer Aniston believe she may have found her best revenge against Brad — turning her diary into a tell-all book!"

"She has all the material she needs to write a great best seller: the story of a nice girl who loses the love of her life to a femme fatale," the mag quoted an insider as saying. Another source said, "Really dishing the dirt on Brad and Angelina would put Jen back in the driver’s seat."

Claymate Comes Forward to Out Clay Aiken

Clay Aiken fan-aniacs are furious that a former Army Ranger who has gone public with his claim that he had a gay sex romp with "American Idol" superstar in a hotel room. Oh, you knew this day was coming ...

According to PageSix: "alleged Aiken love toy John Paulus has been deluged with death threats from the singer's fervent fans ever since his name was leaked onto the Internet as the man who was blabbing to the National Enquirer that he had sex with their beloved Idol, who's repeatedly denied being gay."

WTF??? Clay is gay? He's gay Clay? Who knew?? I can't imag -- oh, wait, yes I can.

Paulus claimed that Clay IM'd him on December 16 using the screen name "ValleyPrettyBoy." Than after about a month of correspondence, Clay admitted he wanted a "discreet bf." He and Clay agreed to meet at the Quality Inn in Garner, North Carolina.

"He wrote, 'Hey man, I see you're online. I'm 26 years old from Raleigh and would love to talk. I have pics but I have a very recognizable face and I can't post the pics. I would be happy to send them to you if you can promise absolute discretion."

Phoenix Rises From Car Crash Unhurt

Joaquin Phoenix is reported banged up but okay after he was involved in a serious car accident in the Hollywood Hills on Thursday. From the details that have been released, it sounds like Joaquin is lucky to still be with us.

"His brakes went out and the car flipped over," the actor's publicist, Susan Patricola, told US weekly magazine. "But he's doing fine." She added that actor was not hospitalized.

Joaquin was driving eastbound on Lookout Mountain Avenue near Laurel Canyon Avenue above Sunset Strip about 2:50 p.m. when he realized his brakes were not working, said police officer Jason Lee. He lost control of his car, and it flipped and hit another vehicle also headed eastbound. Joaquin was wearing his seat belt and walked away from the crash after being helped out of his car by a passer-by.

There's probably more to this story that we aren't hearing yet from the Associated Press. (Like, I hope the people in the other car are okay - no mention of them in the news reports!) And for a car to overturn like that he had to have been speeding along pretty fast. Brakes don't "fail" on cars like they did in those old 1950s movies. It's probably more like that frog jumped out of his hair and freaked him out. Again. Anyways, I love Joaquin, and he's a fabulous actor, and I'm glad to hear he's okay. The accident is under investigation.

Josh Holloway Tops the List of Hottest Hunks

You love the beard, the sneer, the attitude, the southern drawl and the beautiful eyes under those furrowed brows. He's the reason we all tune into "Lost" every week and In Touch Weekly agrees. Josh Holloway, who plays con man Sawyer, has been named the hottest TV hunk in this week's issue.

His co-star Evangeline Lilly agrees with the vote and gave some insight to what the real Josh is like: "He's the guy who opens doors, carries the bags for woman and makes sure they feel protected. It's a very endearing quality."

The magazine says the 36-year-old actor is the best of today's small-screen studs, even surpassing castmate Matthew Fox who came in at ninth on the list. Second on the hunkerific list is John Stamos of "Jake in Progress" even though the show was just cancelled.

IRS Outwits, Outplays Dumbest "Survivor" Winner Ever

Richard Hatch, the over-weight, un-popular contestant dubbed "the fat naked guy", said that the whole thing is totally not his fault, you know, because he was under the belief that CBS would pay the taxes on the $1 million prize he won on the "Survivor" reality show.

But oops, he didn't have a valid excuse for also evading taxes on $327,000 he earned as co-host of a Boston radio show and $28,000 in rent on property he owned. The winner of the first "Survivor" series is headed - not to a beautiful island - but the Big House.

As a defense strategy, his lawyer Michael Minns argued that his client had caught other contestants cheating and that the show's producers at CBS agreed to pay his taxes in exchange for his "silence". (Why wasn't he brought up on charges of blackmail?) Hatch says he saw people trying to sneak food to the contestants on "Survivor".

Chris Penn's Death Still A Mystery

The cause of actor Chris Penn's death is still listed as unknown until toxicology tests from the autopsy can be reviewed. The "Reservoir Dogs" star was found dead in his Santa Monica home on Tuesday.

Chris had a history of drug abuse and weighed north of 270 pounds, but the coroner is ruling that he died of "natural causes."

A number of neighbors were quoted in the Santa Monica Daily Press newspaper as saying they had noticed Penn's health seemed to be on the decline for the past few months. "There was a lot of erratic behavior, and I would see him in the middle of the day totally wasted," said one man who declined to be named. "He'd get pretty amped up." The neighbor who lived next door was quoted as saying, "I never saw him healthy. You knew he was hurting."
