According to People magazine, "Self-preservation and a need to recover from the loss of her boyfriend Stavros Niarchos to Paris Hilton " are the reasons why Mary-Kate Olsen left New York University after her freshman year and moved back to Los Angeles.
In an interview with W, Mary-Kate said of the greek: "I miss him and I love him and I don't speak with him anymore. It's a hurtful and painful subject...This is a hard time for me." As for Paris, she added, "we are not talking."

The less-stressful life, she says, is "what makes me happy. You know? Like, papers don't really make me happy."
