When we last saw Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra) and Jules Paxton (Keira Knightley) in the final scene of "Bend it Like Beckham", the two best friends were leaving England and heading to California to attend college and play soccer on scholarships - and hopefully turn pro.
Last week, director Gurinder Chadha told reporters that she is planning to write and direct a sequel to the 2003 worldwide hit movie which ignited Keira's film career and landed Parminder a starring role on "ER".
According to reports, most of the characters of "Bend It Like Beckham" will return in the sequel - which we hope includes the girls' soccer coach, Joe, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
"I am making a sequel," Chadha told the Sun. "But I see it more as a continuation of the characters than an actual sequel. The first film was based on me when I was growing up, whereas this next one is going to be about my life afterwards."
In related news, Keira will be honored later this month as as the UK personality of the year at the Independent Film Awards. In just a few short years, the busy actress has appeared in hits such as "King Arthur," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Jacket," and "Pride and Prejudice."
