Kristin from eonline had a very REVEALING conversation with Nip/Tuck’s Julian McMahon as he talked about shooting eight sex scenes in one day and about pushing the envelope this year, make that, the last three years.
K: So, ok, Julian...What is it with you and all the crazy sex? Is Dylan jealous?
J: [laughs] I think Dylan’s consistently jealous. It’s not something that he’ll say, and he will defer [the jealousy] to his character, but you know, look at the guy. I mean, I get all the babes and he doesn’t and so that’s all I can say about that. He should be jealous! We try not to let our lives bleed into this on-set stuff, but really it does. I’m just like my character, and so is he.
K: Wow, so you’ve had a lot of action in your time.
J: I have. Particularly in the last couple of years. I’m like Action Jackson in the last couple of years.
K: This show isn’t just pushing the envelope – it’s ripping it apart. Do you ever think ‘OK, now we’ve gone way too far…’?
J: Not really. In fact, I kind of go the other way. I always wish we could maybe go a little bit further sometimes. I mean, once you’re given that license, which we kind of gave ourselves with the pilot, and once everybody said ‘OK, go ahead, make your show’ and all that kinda stuff, it kinda just gave us this ability to do anything, so you’re consistently tryin’ to challenge yourself, trying to make things a little different, trying to put different kinda boundaries or different kinda thing out there, so it just kind of adds a different level to what you’re doing.
K: You get a lot of sex on this show. Everyone on this show gets some action.
J: Well, everybody in life usually gets some action.
K: No. Not so much.
J: Well, you know, we’re in Miami. It’s not like we’re not pertaining to a certain kind of, you know, sensibility and culture. We are plastic surgeons, reasonably wealthy, we got the great cars, the houses, the condos, so it’s pertaining to that type of personality, so we should be having that kinda thing goin’ on. And I don’t agree that it’s not happening everywhere else. I think it’s happening. People just aren’t talkin’ about it!
K: Kelly Carlson was saying that the sex scenes now have gotten to be a little more mechanical, and more technical. She’s not as nervous because she’s been doing this for awhile with you guys and she’s more comfortable with you and you’re comfortable with her. But from a guys’ perspective, when you go to a sex scene with Kelly, or with Kelly and Rhona Mitra, or anybody else who decides to join in—
J: And there’s a lot. You know, I had eight sex scenes in one day. Did you know that? Eight sex scenes in one day. And it was like a 16 or 18-hour day and all I did was have sex all day with eight different women. I know [the guys] are jealous, but really it’s hard work, man (smiling)...

my name is shiri, 30, im' a singer, and an athlete, mph in public health and community medicine , im' from Israel, and as a cliche as it sounds, i simply feel like ive' got to meet with you, as if as i knew you, and im' not just mean it in the way ,well, most of women who write you, i guess, its' just something i would be so glad to do, though i guess you are pretty busy.
i also wanted to say i am so glad for you for becoming such a success , which im' sure required a real hard work, struggles, and sacrifices along all the way, and as most of the people in the world who have watched you, im' amazed by the talent and the unique way you just conquer the viewers' hearts .
i know the chances are low, still, i would be so glad to get to meet with you, if having a crowd watching rehearsals in fx or wherever you are shooting is acceptable , i would be happy to come.
Any way i wish you have read it, and in any case i wish you the best healthy success and life , (and i admire you for adopting two dogs ! if that’s' true as they write : ) )
i wish you all the best,
shiri,
