Ricky Martin Wants to Educate the Ignorant

Ricky Martin pic In his first trip to the Middle East, Peurto Rican popper Ricky Martin is pledging to become a spokesperson for the Arab youth, declaring he will try to change "negative perceptions" of Arabs in Western countries.

Incredibly, Martin said those words while wearing a traditional Arab kaffiyeh headscarf with the Jew-bashing slogan "Jerusalem Is Ours" written in Arabic on it.

"I promise I will become a spokesperson, if you allow me to, a spokesperson on your behalf. I will defend you and try to get rid of any stereotypes," the 33-year-old singer told teenagers from 16 Arab countries at an Arab Children's conference on Monday.

"I have been a victim of stereotypes. I come from Latin America and to some countries, we are considered `losers,' drug traffickers, and that is not fair because that is generalizing," said Martin. "Those comments are made out of ignorance and we have to sometimes ignore the ignorant, but we also have to educate the ignorant. You have me here as a friend."

Later, the ignorant Martin apologized for wearing the Arab scarf without knowing its anti-Israel meaning: "I had no idea that the kaffiyeh scarf presented to me contained language referring to Jerusalem, and I apologise to anyone who might think I was endorsing its message."

Missy Elliott, Green Day, U2, Kanye West, John Legend and Ciara were all nominated for multiple awards at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.

Missy (photo) and Gwen Stefani lead the pack this year with a total of six nominations each, while Kanye West, John Legend, Ciara and Ludacris received three nominations and Snoop earned two. Green Day received eight nominations, and Bono and U2 got five. The Game, 50 Cent, Common, Alicia Keys, Amerie and The Ying Yang Twins were also nominated for awards.

The 22nd annual awards show will be hosted by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs on August 28, which comes at the height of Miami's hurricane season. Diddy promises that the show will include scene-stealing stunts like in the past. "I'm going to tell the artists that if you want to get naked and run across the stage, go ahead and do it," P. Diddy said.

Lindsay Lohan Says She'll Keep Her Clothes On

Teen Queen Lindsay Lohan says that she will never be persuaded to strip off her clothes for a movie role. She claims her inspiration comes from actresses such as Julia Roberts who has famously never bared all on the big-screen.

Femalefirst.com quoted her as saying, "You don't see Julia Roberts going naked or going against her natural beauty. She never has. And look at what a great body of work she has. The people I've always admired, like Jodie Foster and Julia Roberts, have not had to compromise themselves. Some day I'd like someone to say that about me." , Lindz has wrapped up filming her scenes for Robert Altman's "The Prairie Home Companion" and in currently on a two-week promotional trip to Europe where she is promoting "Herbie: Fully Loaded." She'll be busy changing outfits three times a day since she had her entourage haul over 10 trunks of clothes.

One rumor circulating today is that the Lindz was in Thailand with model Kate Moss yesterday enjoying a "weight loss Weekend" at an exclusive health resort. NOT! Monsters and Critics said that the 3-day fast is followed by a strict diet of health food and exercise including pilates, t'ai chi classes and a tough training regime in the gym. Again: NOT!

This might be a nice lil' gossip tidbit to add more fuel her weight-loss rumors, except that Lindsay is in Europe, guys ...

In fact, she was one of the lucky few to be in Paris and in the stands at the finish line watching Lance Armstrong win the Tour de France for a record 7th time. Lindsay told reporters, "To go through what he has gone through and still help people, that's a lot to say. People forget about people like Lance and focus too much on people like me going out at night and not what is important."

Pop singer/actress Hilary Duff has a few snippy words of her own to say to the students who used the school newspaper to openly criticize her plans to take online classes for Harvard University.

Teenhollywood.com is reporting that the 17-year-old "So Yesterday" singer doesn't have time to attend college in person, and is taking extension courses. But some mean students took exception to the "absent celebrity scholar" and poked fun at her in campus newspaper The Crimson.

Hilary responded: "They wrote that Hilary Duff is a loser and a chicken for taking online classes, because she didn't want to take the prerequisites to get accepted. First of all, I have a full-time job. Second, I would like to know if the thousands of other people taking online classes are chicken too, or just me?"
, The teen queen not only has a full-time job, she also has a full time relationship: she has been dating Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, 26, for some time now. And in other wierd Hilary news, she apparently thrilled to learn that Eminem rapped about her butt in his single "Ass Like That."

New trailer for LOTR's director Peter Jackson's new movie.

The trailer looks amazing by the way. Just another fabulous Peter Jackson movie coming down the pipe. But then, this blockbuster should be a walk in the park after his other little epic trilogy.

Cast: Jack Black, Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, Andy Serkis, Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks and Kyle Chandler.

The Island Getting Mixed, but mostly Positive, Reviews

"The Island" has certain special effects, not its largest or most sensational, that reminded me of the creativity in a film like Spielberg's "Minority Report." For example, little ladybug-like robots that crawl up your face and into your eye sockets, and transmit information from your brain before working their way through your plumbing and being expelled like kidney stones. Lance Armstrong pic Sporting a solid 2:46 lead over Italy's Ivan Basso, Lance Armstrong looks set to win a record 7th successive Tour de France - and end his career when he crosses the finish line in Paris.

Lance says his post-racing plans are to spend more time with his kids, who live with his ex-wife, and just "spending some more time surfing, and riding motorcycles and not have the stress of being a professional athlete."

Joss Stone Lacked Large Bum Cakes for Gap Ad

Joss Stone pic British soul singing sensation Joss Stone has been given the bum steer by clothing chain Gap in their latest ad. She sings and dances in the commercial, but when she turned and jiggled her butt, it was decided that Joss wasn�t "J-LO" big enough.

The whole sordid thing kinda reminds me of those Spinal Tap lyrics: " ... Big bottom, big bottom ... Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em!"

Well, not so, Joss. She's blessed with an average size young woman's ass, so they hired a larger butt-double for to fill in the screen during close-ups.

Butt...not having a plump rounder didn't bother the teenager a bit. Joss admitted the switched and joked with reporters: "All those bum shots? They�re not mine. They�re other girls. That�s not my bum, I promise."

Did ABC TV rig their reality show "Dancing With the Stars" to favor General Hospital daytime star Kelly Monaco over strong fan fav John O'Hurley? A source claims that ABC had "nothing to gain by letting O�Hurley win, even though he was clearly the favorite and the best dancer."

In what�s surely the lamest scandal of recent months, the costume malfunction star upset the odds-on favorite O'Hurley on the runaway hit ballroom dancing competition. Judge Carrie Anne Inaba, also a choreographer, had earlier repeatedly called the 50-year-old "Seinfeld" star and his partner, Charlotte Jorgensen, "the couple to beat."
