James Spader of "Boston Legal" gives a rare and insightful interview to Playboy magazine in the May 2005 issue. In it, the delicious actor who Camyrn Manheim called "wierd, strange and ecentric" admits that people treat him with a "healthy amount of distance."
Our boy Jimmy plays the morally corrupt lawyer, Alan Shore, a role for which he won an Emmy last year. In fact, Emmy ballots are being cast this month and Spader could be nominated again, even winning back-to-back Best Lead Drama actor statues because 3-time winner James Gandolfini of "The Sopranos" isn't in the running since the series isn't eligibility. (Jimmy says in the interview that he's never watched a single episode of "Sopranos" Tsk. Tsk Jimbo.)
You can read the full text of the rather long Playboy interview online at jamesspader.org. It covers Jimmy's take on sexuality, his childhood and love of music, knives, and women, why he enjoys playing bizarre characters and why journalists annoy him. Interviewed by Lawrence Grobel. Great reading.
