When last we left our hero, Ewan McGregor was a petulant Jedi knight slicing and dicing with a light saber. The great Scot is currently in London where he is appearing in a stage play, and has revealed that he is busy planning his next mad motorcycle adventure. This one, he hopes, will take him from London to Cape Town, South Africa.
Ewan and fellow actor Charley Boorman teamed up to trek around the world last year. They followed the lay of the land from Europe across Russia -- with just a short water hop over the Bering Strait -- to Alaska, Canada and the continental US. During the trip, they filmed a documentary called "Long Way Round." (The DVD isn't available yet but the book is.) On their adventure, they relate they were chased by paparazzi in Kazakhstan, threated by gun men in the Ukraine, and offered bulls' testicles for supper by Mongolian nomads.
Ewan says he's rested and ready to head off again on the Africa adventure.
, He says, "It's the logical next step. 'Long Way Down,' we'd call it, and we'd get to see all of Africa."
And that's not the only bike trip Ewan is planning. He wants to tour Britain on his favorite vintage motorcycle, a BSA Lightning, and then he hopes to return to the outer limits of Mongolia for a solo camping trip.
He adds, "There's something terribly comforting about visiting remote places and being so far away from home. There's something so beautiful about being alone, having no responsibility, but there's also nothing like coming back to work and to a family I love."
