Mark this one in the hope it’s true category, cuz Variety is reporting that actress Jennifer Connelly has signed on to star in a new film adaptation of Shakespeare’s "MacBeth."
For the Shakespeare-challenged, the play is about a lord, Macbeth, and his wife, Lady MacBeth. He murders his own houseguest, the King of Scotland then acts like a wuss about it. He feels guilty. His wife yells at him. He has visions. A ghost teases him. His wife tells him to suck it up. Three witches tell MacBeth that he should be king. Good idea. So he turns into Tony Soprano and contracts mob hits on his enemies. His wife goes crazy. Mayhem ensues. Everybody dies. Fun for the whole family!
In summation, it roks, and it’s definitely Jennifer Connelly material.
, Not that Jennifer has been confirmed to be playing the lead role, but pfft, there aren’t many female parts in the play except for the weird bitches witches and the Lady, and we don’t want that pretty face hide under mounds of witch make-up. Jennifer is perfect to play this role since she’s the First Lady of Thespian Wierdness, and I don’t mean in a Christina Ricci, Wynona Ryder or Helen Bonham Carter kind of weird way. Besides, Jennifer can act circles around all of them.
The film will be directed by Todd Louiso who is said to wants it the dark tragedy to reflect the "psychological torment" and "brute eroticism" of the play. Sounds like "Requiem for a Dream" all over again - but without the sex scene(s). It's great to see she done making babies for now (she got two sons) and has a bunch of films in the works – "Dark Waters," "Little Children," "The Berkeley Connection," and possibly "Brideshead Revisited."
