Even though "Star Wars" actress Natalie Portman shaved her head (*shudder*) for her upcoming role in a new film, she says she's content with the look -- for now. But she also admits that she loved her gorgeous locks so much that she's kept them, storing them in a bag.
She knows the downside of appearing in public as a femme baldy: "People will think I'm a neo-Nazi or a cancer victim or a lesbian." Furthermore, the 23-year-old actress is often being mistaken for Irish singer Sinead O'Connor who's trademark is her shaven head. (*shudder*)
This most-amazing actress is well on her way to having a fabulous career. The Ivy Leaguer (Harvard, class of 2003) appeared as a lap danceer in "Closer" and will soon be playing a freedom fighter in the comic book spin-off "V For Vendetta." the role for which she shaved her head. (*shudder*)

In fact, everything about Natalie is impressive. (Kids - pay attention here.) Not only was she fluent in 5 languages by the time she graduated from high school, she launched a successful film career while studying for a four-year psychology degree at Harvard. Of the difficult schedule, she said: "I don't care if it ruins my career. I'd rather be smart than a movie star."
Ah, but we love ya as a movie star, Natalie. But a movie star with gorgeous hair... cuz if you've got it, you should flaunt it. I mean, crips, compare the two pictures. She has a pretty face but Her Hair Is Fab.
Her time at the Ivy League university was difficult, however. She says: "I felt I had to prove myself. If I said something stupid in class, they'd look at each other like: 'I know why she got in'."
While she may think of herself as just a shy Jewish girl who would like to be a veterinarian, the Israel-born beauty landed a potential break when she was spotted by a talent scout for a model agency in a Long Island pizza parlor. It could have turned into a classic tale of discovery, only Natalie wasn't interested.
While other girls would jump at such an opportunity, Natalie -- in typical Natalie fashion -- said the very thought of becoming a model was "stupid and boring."
Becoming an actress, on the other hand, was a more interesting proposition. She's appeared in an impressive list of major films including "Star Wars," "Heat," "Cold Mountain," and "Closer." And she's only 23. Watch for Natalie Portman to have one of the biggest careers of any of the young actresses on the red carpets today ... and let's hope she grows the hair back after "V" and dumps the shaved head look. (*shudder*)
