Christian Bale Praises the Look of the New Batman Film

Posted by on May 31, 2005 8:27 PM |

Christian Bale picSerious actor Christian Bale is the perfect choice to play the Masked Crusader as "Batman Begins" is set to open in the US on June 15th.

The handsome Welsh actor follows in the steps of other actors such as Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney, who have played Batman. This time, however, they got the right actor to play the lonely, mysterious and little bit creepy Dark Knight.

In a recent interview, Bale talked about this different approach of this film to the first three Batmans: "We were focusing on Bruce Wayne and Batman, whereas what I would find in watching most of the other movies, I always found the villains much more interesting."

For this movie, director Christopher Nolan ("Momento") will allow Batman to be have the spookiness and intensity the role has been screaming for.
, "I mean, he’s the really on-the-edge one because he’s the guy that, okay, he’s doing good but he’s the Dark Knight," Bale said, "He could do good things but he could just as easily flip over and become like the ultimate villain. Hopefully we’ve been able to portray that in a more character-based way than has been shown before."

When asked what his favorite gadget from the film was, Bale replied: "The car. It has to be because they’ve done such a radically different thing with it. What I love about it is that aesthetically it kicks ass. It looks fucking stunning."

"There were a couple of times driving down the street in Chicago where it’s like, 'We can load it on the truck or just drive 5 minutes down there,' and they just drove 5 minutes down there. And you see that thing just going down the street and everybody is stopping and looking. 'What the hell is this?' There was even this guy who crashed into it. This poor drunken guy who didn’t have a license, who said he got so panicked when he saw the car he thought aliens were landing and he put the pedal to the metal. I wasn’t in it – it was the stunt driver driving it at the time. The guy put the pedal to the metal and sideswiped the Batmobile. So, you know, it has this affect upon people."

"I just loved how it’s indicative of the way that we are making the movie as a whole. It looks nothing like any Batmobile that has come before it."
