Michael Moore's film Farenheit 9/11 got no oscars nominations. So why no support for the Fat Man's cut-and-paste project? Would it be, hmm, they they want to honor artistic achievement in film, something that Fahrenheit 9/11 sorely lacks?
Sure the film brought up great thought-provoking commentary and all that. But Moore got greedy and blew it. Insiders are saying he met face-to-face with 55 Academy Award voters in his agressive campaign for the Best Picture Oscar, telling members to "vote for me" to show America's objection to the re-election of Dubya. Moore's ego believed that his movie was the movie that would changed the course of American history. It didn't.
, Moore won the Oscar for Best Documentary two years ago with Bowling for Columbine and probably would have had a strong chance among all documentaries again this year. But he didn't allow his movie to be considered among documentaries -- he went for the big enchilada -- the Best Picture category. And was turned away. Nada. Nyet. No nominations. This is the thanks he gets from liberal Hollywood after a 20-minute standing ovation at Cannes last May? Could the French have been so wrong?
Moore's star has been falling for a couple of months now and even his bodyguard (a man weighing 400 pounds needs a bodyguard?) was arrested for carrying a unlicensed GUN at a New York's JFK airport on January 19, 2005. Patrick Burke, who says he works for Moore, was arrested after he declared he was carrying a firearm at a ticket counter. (Apparently, Burke is licensed to carry a firearm in Florida and California, but not in New York.) He could be charged with a felony for the incident. In Bowling for Columbine Moore criticizes what he calls "America's culture of fear" and its obsession with guns, yet Moore does the same things he accuses others of.
