Bodelicious Bode Miller Is For Real

Posted by on January 29, 2005 8:21 PM |

He comes from New Hampshire and he was born in a cabin without running water or electricity. He was named Bode because the name just happened to pop into his hippie mother's head. And this year, the great Bode Miller, is poised to smash records on the World Cup Tour. Below, Miller poses with his gold medal after winning the men's Super-G race at the Alpine Ski World Championships in Bormio.

, Miller already has 6 victories in the first 10 races on the circuit (in four different events). He needs only 6 more wins in the final 27 races of the year to match the record, held jointly by Phil Maier (2001) and Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden (1979). Barring injury or a sudden collapse in form, Miller is in line to take down some of the most revered records in Alpine ski racing.

Miller's friend and teammate, Erik Schlopy, begged sports fans to take notice of Bode. "I hope the general public appreciates what Bode is doing. He's better at skiing right now than Tiger Woods is at golf. He's better at skiing than Andy Roddick is at tennis. He should be as famous as those guys, because our sport is way more demanding, way more athletic and involves way more risk than those sports."
